El Calafate and Perito Moreno Glacier Tourist Information:

This little patagonian city is the entrance to the Los Glaciares National Park, an area of such outstanding beauty and importance that it is now a world heritage site. Of the park’s thirteen glaciers, Perito Moreno is a rarity in that it is one of the few glaciers in the world thought still to be advancing. This incredible expanse of blue ice, contorted into crevices and caves as it flows from the mountains, is as startling visually as it is unexpectedly noisy. Hiking over the glacier whilst it creaks and groans and great chunks of ice crash into the waters below is a truly breathtaking experience, possibly only surpassed by the surrounding views of bright blue lakes dotted with errant icebergs and immaculate granite peaks soaring into the clear chill air.

A Patagonian classic. The Perito Moreno Glacier is one of the few glaciers of the world that continues advancing, while all the others are in backward movement. Be witness of a true natural wonder, whose noisy silence will make echo in your interior in a way that you will never forget.

Tours in Calafate 

Perito Moreno Glacier: The tour from Calafate to the Perito Moreno Glacier is 80 kms. in which stops are made to take photographs. The tour gets inside the National Park "Los Glaciers", in a typical area of the Patagonia forest. The first view of the Perito Moreno Glacier is obtained in the "Curva de los Suspiros." Then you will visit the Perito Moreno Balcony where you will have a panoramic view of the Glacier. You will have free time for a walk and where you will appreciate the Perito Moreno Glacier. Duration: full-day.

Excursion by Boat "Todo Glacieres": From Calafate is about 50 kms from Puerto Bandera where the boats depart. The navigation is done by the northern part of “ Lago Argentino “ , between icebergs that flow constantly from Upsala Glacier. Then you will visit Spegazzini glacier and you visit Onelli bay to do a walk of 800 meters, by a forest of native trees, until you get to the lake where you will see three glaciers that descend from the mountains: the Onelli, Bolado and Agassiz. Duration: full day.

Mini-Trekking by the Perito Moreno Glacier: A sailing through the south wall of the Perito Moreno Glacier, a walk through a forest and a walk on the glacier, guided by a group of professionals specially trained for this. When you get to the Glacier the guides will give you special boats to the people who make the excursion, who receive instructions on how to move on the ice. The route on the glacier is in about 2 hours and during the course of it you will see a variety of different ice formations such as cracks, Seracs, sink, small gaps. The walk is moderate. The ice surface on which you walk is irregular, but safe. The return to Port is made with a previous visit to the Canal of the Ice Floe and closer to the sides of the glacier. There is a Mini Bus for the transfer from El Calafate to those who need that service, in which case at the end of the trip, and before returning to El Calafate, will move to passengers until the Viewpoint of Glacier and its gateways in a Given about 60 minutes. This tour replaces the conventional visit to walkways. Duration: full day.
