Tigre & Parana River Delta Information:

Only 18 miles north of the Buenos Aires, there is an extraordinary ecological zone: the Parana River Delta. You can get there by taking the picturesque Tren de la Costa (Riverside Train), whose path along Rio de la Plata coast will allow you to see luxurious residences and a lovely coastline. After stopping at San Isidro station to visit its attractive shopping centre, you can continue on the same train to Tigre where you will navigate small rivers and channels enjoying nature in all its splendor.

The total length of the Parana Delta is about 14,000 km2, with a length of 320 km and a width varying from 18 km to 60 km. The Parana Delta is basically formed by deposition of sediments across the River Plate Basin, 200 million tons per year to be the Bermejo River with 100 million tons the largest contribution. This constant form first sedimentation rushes isolated on the edge with water and then open new islands, moving forward on the Delta to Buenos Aires and Montevideo. It is estimated that over the past 20 years progress has been 100 meters per year, or 1 km every 10 years.

On the boat ride to the islands can be seen the typical island houses, built on pillars sheltered from the floods. The "palafitos" are those built on wooden pillars and roofs of straw or sheet but now they are beautiful brick homes with magnificent parks and gardens, slender and cozy cottages doing with the game environment to welcome our eyes.
